During my high school, I was oblivious that there’s something such as a makeup to cover my face flaws and temporarily bid my beauty boo-boos goodbye.
Then, upon flipping the pages of my aunt’s AVON brochure, I saw this creamy foundation stick thing in a lipstick packaging. It said “concealer”. The moment I knew the word, it struck me. It immediately injected to my head about its core function. Duh, anyone would feel and think the same way I did.
To those of you who don’t know what a concealer is. A concealer is a makeup used to hide flaws—blemishes, scars, dark spots, dark undereye circles—to name a few. Basically, it covers up these flaws and camouflages them to your skin creating a flawless look.
Anyways, the product from AVON was my first concealer. I’m not familiar with other makeup brands yet, particularly the cult fave, MAC. If I did, I won’t probably buy Shu Uemura that would cost my 1 month allowance. Believe me; I wasn’t endowed with a silver spoon in my mouth or a treasure chest on my head.
Going back, I held on to my AVON concealer, and decided to let it go since it cakes and streaks easily. I switched to using liquid foundations as concealers. I used the likes of Maybelline and VMV. I even stashed the real deal (concealer) from VMV, but unfortunately, I’m acidic so it didn’t match my skin tone.
Anyways, just when I started working and had the means (lol, take note of the word had), I splurged for a Cinema Secrets Foundation-Concealer. This is, by far, the best concealer I ever had. The closest is MAC. Cinema Secrets delivers flawless results, meaning it won’t cake or streak the entire day! It may be kind of too creamy and runny, but such consistency makes it blend well to the skin. I bought it a couple of months after going to the beach. As time went by, that concealer became too dark on my skin since I was getting fairer that then (or I should rather say, my skin’s going back to its original color). Then, I made an abrupt switch to MAC concealer.
Given my love for Cinema Secrets, I risked opting to MAC since the latter is relatively cheaper. Plus, it ain’t bad at all! I got an NC30 shade that perfectly fits my skin tone. MAC may kind of streak once you put too much product. So, it’s kind of tricky how to put the right amount of product that’ll effectively camouflage those pesky blemishes.
Right now, I’m eyeing to go back using Cinema Secrets again. However, Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage concealer and Bobbi Brown concealer set pique my curiosity. I wanna road test these babies soon!
