I’m a bit OC when it comes to primping nails. It’s like, I feel so listless and depressed whenever I see my nails dirty and undone. I’m not that high maintenance at all, but I believe that grooming my nails is a huge part of being hygienic. People can deem one’s character just by simply looking at one’s nails.
I’ve been an avid visitor and customer of Nail Spa in Shangri-la Mall. Like many others, I used to visit a commonplace salon for a mani-pedi. Well, it’s too commonplace that bacteria gotten from one’s foot may transfer to mine! Their nail accessories aren’t sterilized at all. Scarier news? Someone already died from a bacterial infection caused by unsanitary foot spa.
Nail Spa, on the other hand, assures its customers that everything is spic and span. All items, including nail accessories, are carefully sterilized before use, plus their wide range of nail polish colors to boot. Choose from a variety of leading nail polish brands like Sally Hansen, China Glaze, Essie, Orly, OPI and a whole lot more! What’s more exciting is every foot or hand treatment includes a 10-to-20-minute massage.
I indulged in Cool Feet Foot Spa (Php 720) and Express Hands (Php 180) treatments. I usually do manicure by myself. Honestly, I rarely apply nail polishes on my fingernails coz they (nail polishes) tend to chip off easily even if high-end brands like Essie are used.
But since it’s my time of R&R, I tried to give my tired hands a bit of treatment. As for my footsies, I always give them extra care since they’re the most abused part of my body (next is my face :P). If you literally have cold feet (or a hypothermia-prone individual), then I suggest you should take another treatment.

Express Hands started with soaking my hands using lukewarm water and hand wash. Next, the nail technician put some scrub onto it. She started cleaning my nails using a cuticle remover, pusher and nipper, and then shaping it with a nail file. After that, she gave me a relaxing hand massage. I brought a bottle or two of nail polishes in my tote. I chose Sally Hansen Maximum Growth nail polish in Orchid. It’s a semi-transparent, natural-pink nail polish with a shiny purple sheen (when light reflects on it). She applied the base coat, then the polish, finally finishing it with the top coat.

Cool Feet had a very long treatment, to my surprise. It all started with soaking my feet in a foot bath machine equipped with a foot massage at the base where I step my feet on. I waited for minutes until bubbles pile up. The nail technician then began scrubbing and massaging my feet for about 20 long, blissful minutes. After that, she slathered some cold aqua mask and left it for about 10-15 minutes. Time had passed, and at last, she started grooming my toe nails. For the nail polish, I picked OPI pink nail polish. It’s no surprise that I’m an impervious pink lover. Just like the right nail coloring way goes, she started off with the top coat, following the nail color and ending up with the base coat. Whilst she’s (the nail tech) doing the treatment, I gave in and fell asleep. Funny thing was, I was still asleep even after she polished my footsies!
Hand treatment goes from Php 180-600 while foot treatment goes from Php 260-990. Take your pick whichever suits you (and your budget)! Visit Nail Spa branches in Shangri-Mall Mall and Rustan’s Makati today.
