Search Engine Marketing going more Social Media

I must confess: I told myself long ago that I will not blog about work. Hence, it looks like I have finally broken my own rule :D . Since the great change in Google algorithm happened last year (around April 2008), Search Engine Optimization has drastically changed. Today, you cannot just do things aggressively in the hopes of putting your website on top of the search results.

However, old-school tactics still work, and has more advantage than those who do not practice them at all. Yet, the trend of today is more on branding.

That’s where Social Media comes in. Of course, it’s hard to promote your brand in Search Results alone since nobody knows what it is (unless you try PPC for faster approach). But, if you want to spend less (or don’t spend at all), then all you hafta do is to go social.

Notice the fast proliferation of social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Don’t forget blogs still have an impact. Embracing web 2.0 may seem ominous, but more and more companies are taking the full risk to adapt new “changes”.

For one, I notice one blog who used to have a 10,000,000 rank in Alexa. Just by using Twitter, its rank went tremendously up by 200,000 today. :) Well, try to observe a site you recently follow in Twitter from then til now, you’ll see what I mean.

So, off to do some “social media” experiment. Enlighten yourself with these social media reads:
