House Never Meant to Cause You Trouble.

Don’t you worry. I’m not going to throw tantrums, lamenting something around here. ;)

I love piano rock so much that I love Coldplay. I’m a big fan of Chris Martin, and so I’m jealous of Gwyneth Paltrow. :P Anyway, in case you missed (like I did), the latest season of House, it’s now available on the boob tube (for US peeps).

I was really enthralled watching its two-hour premier, Broken, where House was admitted to a mental institution after succumbing to his psychotic breakdowns during the last few episodes of the previous season. I’m not gonna bore you with details, so just watch the vid here instead.

House’s flame of the moment was Lydia, played by actress Franka Potente. She’s best known as Jason Bourne‘s lady love who was killed in the second installment of the trilogy. She really looks so old on the House episode though, far from being Marie.

Cutting the crap, Coldplay’s Trouble from the album Parachutes clearly befits the episode. Watch and listen here:

Anyway, they used Radiohead‘s No Surprises instead, which is played on the beginning. Not that I’m complaining, I love Radiohead as well. :D

Anyways, House Season 6 is on fire, and definitely to watch [out] for. It’s gonna be one hell of a crazy diagnostics ride! ;)

My Version of Eggplant Parmesan.

Eggplant Parmesan Recipe

As you can see, I’ve been into cooking recently. I think cooking is sort of a therapy to keep all my worries at bay. Not to mention, it really satiates my eternal desire for food! :P

I won’t brag about my cooking skills, since I have rare to none. But, this particular dish of mine is rarely served in our kitchen, mainly because my lola loves it! :) My grandmother is a great cook, mind you, and she has a delicate taste for everything. Gone were my failed attempts on bulgogi, Korean steak, Chicken-fried steak, Raspberry Souffle (which made me cry on Christmas day), etc. This is one of my specialties, perhaps second to baking chocolate-macadamia cookies. Honestly, I don’t think I could still pull off the same perfection as before on the latter. It’s been a long time since I baked one, back when the oven was still in good working condition.

Without further ado, here’s my Eggplant Parmesan Recipe:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 to 1/3 cup of Mozzarella Cheese grated
  • 1/4 cup of Parmesan Cheese grated
  • 2 onion bulbs (I used the red one, one lang siguro if white) chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves chopped
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 3 small tomatoes or 2 big ones chopped
  • 1/3 cup of tomato sauce
  • 1/2 tsp ground pepper
  • Pinch of salt (about 2 pinches of rock salt, not iodized)
  • 2 large-sized eggplants cut horizontally into 1/4 inch thick (the recipe says you have to remove the skin, but I didn’t coz I like its texture :P )
  • Pack of bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp of light (low fat) butter (but I guess common butter will do)
  • 2 tbsps of light flavored olive oil (but common olive oil or vegetable oil will do the trick)
  • 1 egg white
  •

    Directions:

Prepare eggplant, bread crumbs and egg white. First, beat egg white with 2 tbsps of water until foamy. Dip each eggplant piece into the egg white, and then coat each using the bread crumbs, pressing it against the crumbs to adhere better.

Prepare a ceramic or glass baking pan, spread 1 tsp of butter, then place the eggplant pieces one by one until spaces are all filled. Do not put one atop of the other.

Cook in a microwave oven set high by 4 minutes. Remove the baking pan. Then turn the eggplants upside down. Bake for another minute. Eggplants must look brownish and crispy.

On the other hand, sauté garlic and onion until golden brown using olive oil. Place them together with tomatoes, tomato sauce, salt, pepper & basil in a mixing bowl. Mix the ingredients fully.

Prepare another glass baking pan. First place half of the tomato mixture into the pan, and then half of the eggplant pieces. Sprinkle it with half of the mozzarella cheese. Repeat the same procedure, making another layer. Btw, the mozzarella should be on the last layer, followed by sprinkling parmesan cheese.

Bake it using the microwave oven for 3-4 minutes, or until the sauce starts to boil and the mozzarella is nicely melted.

Note that all measurements are based on my “very subjective” estimates. I didn’t use any measuring device, just simple utensils you can find in any home. My measuring cups and spoons were left in Novaliches, so I had to improvise. Also, I used microwave oven. Baking it using a convection oven may take some time.

This will make you climb stairs.

Normally, we always choose the less arduous way when doing tasks, even the simplest ones. In case of climbing stairs versus riding the escalator, I myself rather choose the latter than suffer literally an enormous weight of going against the gravity one step at a time.

However, relying always on machines with less to no effort makes us very lazy individuals, isn’t it? Even though we normally break a sweat whilst doing the ancient norm, it makes us healthier and tougher in practice. We always complain about being too busy to take some time off for exercise, but don’t we consider choosing stairs over shiny escalators as one to start with? :D

Well, these piano stairs in Stockholm will make you climb stairs. The only answer to shift someone’s behaviour is FUN! :)

Wow, it makes me wanna go to Sweden. Can someone pull off a Fur Elise given the limited octave? :P I don’t think so, but a simple Do-Re-Mi or Chopsticks would be really, really nice and “fun” nonetheless!

I believe this holds true to work or any other given chores. In order to make someone productive, you should give him/her a job which he/she considers as FUN. Revolutionize boring tasks now! ;)
