Skinfood Ginkgo Blemish Balm Cream
Posted by roanne in BB Cream, Beauty Reviews, Blemish Balm, Product Reviews, Skin Care, Skinfood on September 22, 2007
The blemish balm cream, commonly known as bb cream, has been a cult favorite in other Asian countries particularly Korea, Singapore and Taiwan (reviews here). If my research’s right, I think it originated in Korea and has been carried out by several brands including BRTC, Misscha, TFS and Skinfood to name a few. Many have claimed that this so-called miraculous cream does wonders on their skin, making it clear, supple and youthfully glowing.
Since I drool over Korean porcelain skin a lot, I’ve managed to grab one as soon as possible. I scoured Korean brands available here in the local market like The Face Shop and Skinfood but to no avail. Skinfood, however, told me that this new product of theirs would be launched soon and they’d contact me as soon as it’s available. So, I waited for the Skinfood SA’s text until last Saturday, she told me that the product has arrived and is now ready for purchase!
I was so giddy, I immediately ran to SM Megamall after work. And, finally, I got ahold of this precious Skinfood Ginkgo BB Cream! Skinfood is tad pricier than TFS, but what the heck, it’s still relatively cheaper compared to MAC.

The El-Cheapo Side of Belo
Posted by roanne in Beauty Reviews, Belo, Skin Care on July 21, 2007

Who doesn’t know Belo in the Philippines? Anyone would be ecstatic upon getting to know this famous dermatologist who does wonders on the stars’ flawless skin and hour-glass figure–making them shine and stand out.
And yes, I’m talking about celebrities.
Belo is one of the most sought-after doctors today, particularly those old and nouveau rich who can afford her lavish, sky-high beautifying treatments a common layman can hardly experience. If I were pretty wealthy and imeldific enough to avail her intense Obagi treatments, I’d do so without thinking. But, unfortunately, I don’t have enough moolahs to spare for $500 outright! Inasmuch as I wanna have a smooth, flawless complexion, I’d rather go get myself a laptop.
I don’t say that I don’t go to the dermatologist. Ironically, I do. I spend $500 or more — but it isn’t in one sitting though.
Going back, I recently discovered the new face of Belo. This time, it’s cheaper — a way affordable by the masses.
Alcohol Free Toners
Posted by roanne in Personal Moods, Skin Care, Toners/Astringents on May 24, 2007
I’m posting this entry by experience. I’ve been using alcohol-laden astringents for quite a while, and I’m somehow getting wary to continue using it.
I can’t say it’s generally bad to use toners or astringents containing alcohol. In my opinion, I believe that the alcohol acts as an antiseptic that wards off acne causing bacteria to the skin and alleviates further infection (in case of Ethanol). That’s why, most anti-acne toners contain this well-known compound. But, for those with ultra-sensitive skin like me, I don’t really recommend toner or astringent containing lhuge doses of alcohol for daily use.
Why? Since alcohol is a really strong drug (well, you can feel its potency by simply taking a whiff), it can actually make the skin more sensitive to the sunlight. We all know that the alcohol is a volatile product; it can burn just like the oxygen. Stepping out to the sun sans applying something with SPF invites burn trauma to the topmost layer of the skin (epidermis). Redness, itching, dark singed spots or sunspots and mild pain or burning sensation are the most common signs sun damage. And if sun damage goes unrelented, it may even lead to the scariest thing of all–CANCER.
“An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.” This old adage holds true for most of us. For people who are undergoing extensive acne medication, it is a must to slather a sunblock with at least SPF 15 to make your skin less sensitive to the sun minus sacrificing the use of an alcohol toner/astringent that actually works to get rid of those nasty zits. But, for people like me who want to completely have their face inebriated, consider choosing products that claims “Alcohol-free”. Be very wary though that not all products that appear “alcohol-free” holds true!
One way to test if the toner is alcohol free is to actually burn them!
